Continue Your Progress Between PT Sessions
You will get individualized advice from your physical therapist about what you should do between sessions. But don’t be surprised to find a few of these items on your list.
- Home-Based Activities – Your physical therapist will likely send you home with some homework. They’ll ask you to do the exercises on your own. These exercises can help you continue strengthening your key structures and joints. You won’t have to physically test your body. Ask your physical therapist if you have questions or need help with these exercises. We are more than happy and able to answer any questions that you may have.
- Hydrate – Keeping hydrated is important to maintain blood circulation and deliver nutrients and oxygen to damaged structures. When you are working to heal an injury, always keep a water bottle handy. A good goal to set is to reduce your body weight by half, and then drink as many ounces per day.
- Stay Active It is also important to stay active between sessions. You shouldn’t be sedentary in between sessions as your muscles and joints may begin to decline. It’s not a good idea to do too strenuous activities between sessions. Walking, swimming, and yoga are all great low-impact options.
- Eat Right – It is also very important to pay attention to what you are putting into your body between sessions. Your body needs to be hydrated. It is also in need of all the nutrients and vitamins it can get to repair its tissues. You should eat a variety of foods that provide a variety of nutrients and vitamins. Healthy eating can help prevent weight gain. This can be detrimental to your body’s ability to heal from injuries or surgeries.
- Set Goals – Many people find it useful to have goals they can work towards between sessions and on a longer-term basis. Setting goals can help you stay motivated and make better choices for your health. What are you hoping to achieve through physical therapy?
